Brent Strom tossed a complete game and Dave Winfield had 5 hits and 3 RBI at
Riverfront Stadium as the San Diego Padres beat the Cincinnati Reds by the
count of 8 to 3.
Winfield had a big day with his bat. He laced a single in the 1st inning,
blasted a solo shot (his 10th of the season) in the 3rd inning, lined a
one-base hit bringing in a run in the 5th inning, hit a base-hit in the 7th
inning and doubled scoring a run in the 8th inning. San Diego finished with
15 hits in the victory.
The winning pitcher was Strom(3-0) who allowed 3 runs for the game. Pat
Darcy(3-2) was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 3
walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
