First baseman Dan Driessen had 4 hits at Fulton Co Stadium where the

Cincinnati Reds beat the Atlanta Braves by the score of 5 to 1.

 

Cincinnati started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of

the first scoring a single run utilizing 2 base hits.  Cincinnati had 12 hits

for the night while Atlanta had 3.  

 

The victory was credited to Tom Carroll(2-0) who went 6 innings, allowing 1

run. Fredie Norman recorded his 1st save.  Carl Morton(7-7) was hit with the

loss.  He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

 

Cincinnati continued their winnings ways improving their record to a division

leading 46-26.  They are 9-1 in their last ten games.  With the loss Atlanta

now has a record of 33-40.

Biff Pocoroba cracked a homer and had 4 RBI and Mike Beard went 5 strong
innings as the Atlanta Braves outscored the Cincinnati Reds 14 to 10.
 
The Atlanta fans enjoyed the offense provided by Pocoroba.  He popped a
two-run clout over the fence (his 1st of the season) in the 5th inning and
lashed a single scoring two baserunners in the 8th inning.  For the game
Atlanta out-hit Cincinnati 18 to 13.  
 
Ray Sadecki(3-2) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Pedro Borbon(3-6)
was given the loss in relief.

Boston scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they had 4 base hits. That early run support was enough for Jim Burton(2-1) and Boston. Boston out-hit Cleveland for the game, 15 hits to 11. Roger Moret recorded his 3rd save. Eric Raich(0-3) took the loss. He allowed 14 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
