Rick Reuschel mowed down 11 Cincinnati batters and Jose Cardenal had 2 base
hits at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs came back dramatically to top the
Cincinnati Reds by the score of 6 to 5.

Chicago came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3
hits. Manny Trillo led off the inning for Chicago when he drew a walk.
Steve Swisher next to the plate and he singled. After an out was recorded,
Don Kessinger came to the plate and lined a one-base hit bringing in a run.
Cardenal was up next and he stroked a base-hit giving Chicago the victory as
10,958 happy fans celebrated wildly. Chicago won despite being out-hit by
Cincinnati 13 hits to 10.

Reuschel(5-8), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Pedro
Borbon(3-5) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 2 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk.

Reuschel and Cardenal were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the
great come from behind victory. As Jim Marshall noted, 'A win like this one
can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans,
the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
