Johnny Bench had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds beat the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 4 to 2.
Cincinnati scored 2 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits. Fredie
Norman led off and started the rally when he laced a single. Pete Rose
stepped up to the plate and he doubled. Dave Concepcion then would ground
out which plated a run. Bench followed and he singled scoring the final run
of the inning. Pittsburgh proved to be no trouble in the 9th.
The winning pitcher was Norman(3-2) who allowed 1 run in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Will McEnaney got the save, his 4th. Jerry Reuss(6-4) was hit with the loss.
The winning ways continue for Cincinnati. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. Pittsburgh will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their
recent 8-2 run - and not a start of a new trend.
