Johnny Bench lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 5 RBI as the Cincinnati
Reds topped the Chicago Cubs by a score of 9 to 6 at Wrigley Field.
Bench was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at
their team's expense. He lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his
17th of the season) in the 3rd inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in
the 5th inning. Cincinnati dominated offensively as they scored in 6
different innings.
The victory went to Clay Carroll(3-3) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Steve Stone(5-3) absorbed the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 2
walks in 5 innings.
