The Cincinnati Reds nipped the St. Louis Cardinals 6 to 5 at Busch Stadium in
a hard fought contest.
Cincinnati jumped on top to stay in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 2
runners on 2 hits. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but Cincinnati was able
to put down the rally.
The victory was credited to Don Gullett(9-1) who went 6 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 5 runs. Gullett was helped out by Clay Carroll who recorded his 4th
save. The loss was charged to Bob Gibson(3-7). He pitched 7 innings and
surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks.
'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Gullett, 'I was
just giving us a chance to win.'
