Fred Lynn had 4 hits as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Cleveland Indians by a
score of 7 to 3 at Fenway Park.

Boston scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they had 4 base
hits. That early run support was enough for Jim Burton(2-1) and Boston.
Boston out-hit Cleveland for the game, 15 hits to 11.

Roger Moret recorded his 3rd save. Eric Raich(0-3) took the loss. He allowed
14 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Jim Perry held Minnesota scoreless on just 3 hits at Oakland Co Stadium as the
Oakland A's beat the Minnesota Twins 9 to 0.

Perry(3-5) looked very much in control throughout the night. He allowed just
3 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. Oakland rapped out 9 hits for the night.

Jim Hughes(8-3) suffered the loss. He gave up 9 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings and
saw his ERA jump from 3.15 to 3.89. 'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed.
Man alive, things were getting awfully grim,' noted Alvin Dark. 'Now, we
need to string a bunch of wins together and turn things around!'

George Medich blanked Baltimore in a very well-pitched complete game as the
New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 4 to 0 at
Memorial Stadium.

Medich(13-4) was tremendous on the mound for New York. He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 6 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. New York totaled 10
hits on the night.

Ross Grimsley(3-9) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings and
surrendered 9 hits and 2 walks.

Steve Hargan(5-4) delivered a fine performance for Texas. He was reached for
6 hits and 1 walk in 8 and 1/3 innings. Texas banged out 7 hits on the
night.

Steve Foucault got the save, his 9th. Bill Singer(4-7) was charged with the
loss. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 6
and 2/3 innings of work.

The Texas ballclub's record now stands at 33-35. With the loss, the California
ballclub's record is 30-41, worst in the division.

Bill Castro allowed 2 hits while blanking Detroit at County Stadium as the
Milwaukee Brewers beat the Detroit Tigers by the count of 2 to

Castro(4-2) escaped virtually unscathed against the Detroit hitters. He
didn't give up much, just 2 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA
from 3.97 to 3.43. Milwaukee managed 8 hits in their victory.

Joe Coleman(2-9) was given the loss. He gave up 8 hits and 3 walks in 8
innings.
