Jim Palmer went the distance and Al Bumbry collected 2 extra-base hits at

Arlington Stadium as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Texas Rangers by the

count of 10 to 2.



Texas never recovered after Baltimore took the lead in the 4th inning when

they scored 2 runs on 3 hits. Baltimore totaled 15 hits on the night.



The win went to Palmer(9-4) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Jim Bibby(7-4) was

tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 10

hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Jim Burton delivered 9 solid innings as the Boston Red Sox defeated the

Chicago White Sox by the score of 2 to 1 at Comiskey Park.



Boston claimed the early lead in the first inning as they scored 2 runs on 2

base hits. That early run support was enough for Burton(1-0) and Boston.

The pitchers took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score

again.



Jim Kaat(6-5) was the loser. 'Burton just dominated us' losing pitcher Kaat

said. 'Hopefully we can get to him the next time around'

In a great finish the Cleveland Indians came back in the top of the ninth and

held on to win over the Kansas City Royals by a score of 6 to 5 at Royals

Stadium.



Cleveland had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 hits.

After an out was recorded, John Ellis opened up the scoring as he cracked a

solo homerun (his 4th of the season). Ed Crosby got his turn next, but he

was a strikeout victim. Buddy Bell then banged out a single. Duane Kuiper

followed and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Kansas City had

13 hits in the game while Cleveland had 9, but Cleveland had the more timely

hits.



Tom Buskey(3-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Steve Busby(9-5) suffered the loss. The Cleveland ballclub's record now

stands at 26-29. With the loss Kansas City now has a record of 24-35.



OAKLAND AT MILWAUKEE

Right fielder Claudell Washington had 3 base hits and 3 RBI at County Stadium

where the Oakland A's beat the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 6 to

2.



Oakland took the lead off Bill Castro in the first inning scoring one runner

using 3 hits. Milwaukee was out-hit by Oakland, 13 hits to 5.



Vida Blue(10-5) allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the

victory. Rollie Fingers was credited with his 11th save. Castro(3-1)

absorbed the loss.



The winning ways continue for Oakland. They now have a record of 8-2 in

recent days. Milwaukee has a record of 23-31 after the loss.

John Wockenfuss had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and John Hiller pitched 3 and one

third strong innings as the Detroit Tigers defeated the California Angels by

a score of 5 to 4 at Tiger Stadium.



In the bottom of the 6th inning Detroit scored 2 runs when they had 3 base

hits. The critical plate appearance was by Wockenfuss who brought a roar

from the partisan Tiger Stadium fans when he delivered a one-base hit

bringing in two baserunners. Detroit banged out 8 hits on the night.



Hiller(3-2) went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. The loss was

charged to Ed Figueroa(6-3). He gave up 5 runs and 8 hits in 8 innings.
