In a tight game it was the New York Mets 7, the Cincinnati Reds 5 at
Riverfront Stadium.
In the top of the 5th inning New York scored 5 runs when they had 4 base hits.
The key at-bat was by Felix Millan who quieted the home crowd when he
stroked a base-hit which was good for two runs. Despite scoring in 5
separate innings, Cincinnati could not get the win.
Jon Matlack(9-8) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 8 innings. Matlack got
relief help from Rick Baldwin who gained credit for his 4th save. The loss
was charged to Fredie Norman(4-4). He allowed 10 hits and 4 walks in 4 and
2/3 innings.
'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Matlack said,
'this was one of those times.'
