Tom Seaver struck out 10 batters as the New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati
Reds by a score of 7 to 4 at Riverfront Stadium.
Dave Kingman enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He doubled resulting in a run
in the 3rd inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 17th of the
season) in the 5th inning. New York finished with 14 hits in the victory.
The winning pitcher was Seaver(12-6) who allowed 4 runs for the game. Gary
Nolan(8-7) was the losing pitcher. He allowed New York 7 runs in 6 innings
of work.
Seaver didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had
10 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent
total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good,
isn't it?'
