Rawly Eastwick closed the door on San Diego and Bill Plummer had 2 base hits
at Jack Murphy Stadium where the Cincinnati Reds beat the San Diego Padres by
the score of 4 to 1.
Cincinnati had the game winning rally in the 8th inning with 3 runs utilizing
4 base hits. Pete Rose led off and started the attack as he delivered a
base-hit. Ken Griffey was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Joe
Morgan then drew a walk. Dan Driessen followed and he doubled scoring two
baserunners. George Foster came to the plate and stroked a single. Cesar
Geronimo kept things alive and stroked a one-base hit scoring the final run
of the inning. Cincinnati and San Diego each finished the afternoon with 8
hits.
Will McEnaney(4-2) allowed 1 run in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
McEnaney was helped out by Eastwick who recorded his 7th save. Dave
Tomlin(4-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. Cincinnati scored big
getting 3 runs off him in 2 innings.
