Rusty Staub blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Riverfront Stadium where the
New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 9 to 8.
Staub provided the offensive punch. He lined a single in the 1st inning, hit
a bases-empty home run in the 3rd inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his
14th of the season) in the 5th inning. Cincinnati had a chance to come back
in the 9th but they came up short.
Rick Baldwin(6-2) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Nino
Espinosa recorded the save, his 1st. Clay Carroll(4-4) was hit with the loss
in relief.
