At Jarry Park the Montreal Expos were battered 10 to 3 by the Cincinnati

Reds.

Cincinnati went ahead for good in the 4th inning with 3 runs using 3 hits.

After an out was recorded, Dave Concepcion initiated the scoring spurt when

he slapped a base-hit. Concepcion then stole second base. One out later,

Pete Rose stepped up to the plate and he was walked intentionally. Ken

Griffey followed and he slapped a single scoring a run. Griffey took second

on the throw. Joe Morgan stepped into the box and was walked intentionally

to load the bases. Johnny Bench added to the uprising and lined a one-base

hit as another two runners scored. Cincinnati had 14 hits for the night

while Montreal had 11.

Jack Billingham(9-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and

allowing 3 runs. Steve Rogers(6-11) suffered the loss. He got hit hard,

allowing 13 hits and 6 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Cincinnati now has a record of a division leading 57-34. Still in a bad

slump, with this loss, Montreal is 2-8 lately and 32-53, worst in the

division on the year.
