Rusty Staub had 2 base hits as the New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds
by the score of 2 to 0 at Shea Stadium.
Cincinnati never recovered after New York took the lead in the 3rd inning
scoring a single run. The early run support proved sufficient for Tom
Seaver(3-3) and New York. That was all the run support Seaver required.
Cincinnati had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Bob Apodaca recorded the save, his 3rd. Jack Billingham(3-2) was hit with the
loss. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 4 hits and 3 walks.
