Center fielder Dave May ripped 2 homeruns as the Atlanta Braves defeated the

Chicago Cubs by a score of 12 to 3 at Wrigley Field.

May was in a groove all day. The Chicago fans hated to see him approaching

the batter's box. He slapped a base-hit in the 6th inning, delivered a solo

blast in the 8th inning and quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam (his

2nd of the season) in the 9th inning. Atlanta finished with 13 hits while

Chicago ended up with 7.

The victory was credited to Mike Beard(1-1) who went 4 innings, allowing no

runs. Ray Burris(2-4) was given the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in

his 7 innings of work.

With this win, Atlanta has a 25-21 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With

this loss, Chicago has a 5-5 record of late, 21-20 overall.

deflated the crowd as he blasted a two-run home run (his 2nd of the season).

Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but Houston was able to put down the rally.

J.R. Richard(7-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and
