Lee Lacy touched them all and had 2 RBI and Don Sutton pitched 9 strong

innings at Dodger Stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs

by the score of 6 to 0.



Sutton(2-5) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed only 6 hits and

no walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.19 to 2.86. Los Angeles

finished with 12 hits in the victory.



Bill Bonham(2-4) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 7 innings allowing 11

hits and no walks. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Jim

Marshall said. Sutton pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'

Mike Jorgensen cracked a homer and had 3 RBI as the Montreal Expos beat the

Atlanta Braves by a score of 8 to 0.



Montreal jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they scored 2

runs on 2 hits. That early run support was enough for Woodie Fryman(1-6) and

Montreal. Montreal had 14 hits for the night while Atlanta had 7.



Roric Harrison(4-3) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around by

Montreal, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. 'It's been a

rough ride lately, but this was a good win for us' said Gene Mauch, 'Maybe

this will put us back on track.'



PHILADELPHIA AT HOUSTON

Roger Metzger had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and J.R. Richard carried a no-hitter

into the 6th inning at The Astrodome as the Houston Astros beat the

Philadelphia Phillies 8 to 6.



Fred Scherman(2-1) pitched well enough in relief to get the win. He went 1

and 2/3 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 walk. The right-handed Richard had his

no-hit bid broken up by Jay Johnstone who singled with nobody out in the 6th

inning. Both teams ended up with 7 hits on the night.



Scherman got relief help from Wayne Granger who gained credit for his 8th

save. Ron Schueler(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was knocked

around, surrendering 5 runs in 2 innings.

In a dramatic ending at Candlestick Park the San Francisco Giants won in their

last at-bat beating the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 3 to 2.



The game was decided in the 9th inning. Willie Montanez tripled. Chris

Speier followed, but he was set down on strikes. Steve Ontiveros then

delivered a base-hit making San Francisco the victors to the delight of the

home town faithful. San Francisco had a total of 9 hits for the game.



Gary Lavelle(3-3) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.

Larry Demery(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 4 hits

in 2 and 1/3 innings.

At Jack Murphy Stadium, the San Diego faithful were treated to an intriguing

pitcher's duel. Elias Sosa(2-0) finally bested his San Diego counterpart,

Alan Foster(0-2), by the score of 4 to 0.



St. Louis set the tone of the game in the first inning plating an isolated run

on 2 hits. That early scoring was all that Sosa needed. St. Louis rapped

out 9 hits for the night.



Al Hrabosky recorded the save, his 10th. Foster suffered the loss. He gave

up 7 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

In a lop-sided win the Cincinnati Reds offense put up 5 runs on the scoreboard

in the 1st inning and ripped the New York Mets by a 9 to 2 count.



Cincinnati started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of

the first as they scored 5 runs on 5 base hits. That early scoring held up.

Cincinnati had 11 hits overall, while New York had 8.



Don Gullett(7-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. The loss was

charged to Jerry Koosman(1-4). He allowed 5 hits and no walks in 2/3 of an
