In a tight game it was the Philadelphia Phillies 4, the Cincinnati Reds 2 at
Riverfront Stadium.

In the top of the 2nd inning Philadelphia scored 2 runs when they had 4 base
hits. After an out was recorded, Garry Maddox began the rally when he
tripled. Johnny Oates was next and he lashed a single, and an error was also
committed, bringing in a run. Mike Anderson then delivered a base-hit
scoring the final run of the inning. Overall Philadelphia out-hit Cincinnati
10 to 5.

The victory went to Steve Carlton(4-4) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs.
Gene Garber recorded the save, his 4th. Pat Darcy(1-1) took the loss.

The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at 20-19. Cincinnati has a
record of 24-19 after the loss.
