Gary Nolan pitched a 2 hit shutout and Doug Flynn hit 2 doubles at Jarry Park
as the Cincinnati Reds beat the floundering Montreal Expos by the count of 3

Nolan(4-2) dominated Montreal hitters. He surrendered only 2 hits and 1 walk
in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 2.56 to 2.14. Montreal was retired
without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th.
The losing pitcher was Dave McNally(4-3). 'Nolan pitched a gem of a game',
Gene Mauch recounted. 'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'
