Pat Dobson completed the game without help from the bullpen at Shea Stadium as

the New York Yankees beat the struggling Kansas City Royals by the count of 6

to 3.



New York took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring one

runner on 2 hits. New York banged out 10 hits on the night.



The win was credited to Dobson(6-0) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.

Paul Splittorff(2-4) took the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings giving up 8

hits and 1 walk.

Bert Campaneris had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Vida Blue shutout Boston while

allowing the Oakland bullpen a day-off as the Oakland A's outscored the

Boston Red Sox 6 to 0.



Blue(7-3) looked very much in control throughout the night. He was stingy on

the mound, allowing just 8 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Oakland finished

with 14 hits in the victory.



The losing pitcher was Bill Lee(4-5). He gave up 5 runs and 11 hits in 7 and

1/3 innings.

In a one-sided affair the Texas Rangers batters pounded the Milwaukee Brewers

pitchers for 8 runs while Jim Bibby(5-2), with relief help from Steve

Foucault, throttled Milwaukee.



Texas jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated run

using 2 hits. That was all the runs Bibby needed. Texas had 14 hits for the

game and Milwaukee had 6.



Pete Broberg(5-4) was given the loss. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 5

hits and 1 walk. The Texas ballclub's record now stands at 19-17. Milwaukee

can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8

record over the last couple weeks.

Aurelio Rodriguez cracked a homer and had 3 RBI at Metropolitan Stadium where

the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins by the score of 6 to

4.



Rodriguez had a big day against Minnesota. He tripled bringing in two

baserunners in the 2nd inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 2nd of

the season) in the 4th inning and laced a one-base hit in the 9th inning.

Detroit had 11 hits for the night.



Mickey Lolich(2-4) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory.

Lolich got help from Ray Bare who was credited with his 1st save. Dave

Goltz(2-4) absorbed the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 9 innings.



'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Lolich said.
