In a dramatic ending at Jack Murphy Stadium the San Diego Padres won in their
last at-bat beating the Cincinnati Reds by the count of 2 to 1.
The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. Enzo Hernandez slapped
a one-base hit. Hernandez stole second with some aggressive base running.
Bob Tolan then lined a single. After an out was recorded, Mike Ivie came to
the plate and laced a base-hit making San Diego the winners and sending the
39,746 fans home happy. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
The win went to Dave Tomlin(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Pedro
Borbon(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief. By giving up 1 run in 1 inning
his ERA increased from 4.15 to 5.06.
