In a good matchup it was the San Diego Padres 6, the Cincinnati Reds 4 at
Riverfront Stadium.
San Diego came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning with 3
runs using 4 hits. Hector Torres got things going when he delivered a
base-hit. After an out was recorded, John Grubb stepped in and he slapped a
one-base hit. One out later, Mike Ivie stepped up to the plate and he
delivered a base-hit plating a run. Willie McCovey was up next and he
doubled as two more runners crossed the plate. Cincinnati was out-hit by San
Diego, 14 hits to 10.
Rich Folkers(1-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 1 and 1/3 innings. Danny
Frisella recorded the save, his 2nd. Pedro Borbon(2-3) suffered the loss in
relief.
