Jack Billingham came through with a solid 8 and two third innings and left
fielder Pete Rose had 2 base hits as the streaking Cincinnati Reds topped the
Atlanta Braves by a score of 3 to 0 at Fulton Co Stadium.
Cincinnati jumped on top of Atlanta in the top of the 3rd inning scoring a
single run. Rose drew a walk. Dave Concepcion was next and he slapped a
base-hit. Joe Morgan then would hit into a force play scoring the run. The
early run support proved sufficient for Billingham(2-1) and Cincinnati. That
was all the run support Billingham required. Overall Cincinnati out-hit
Atlanta 9 to 4.
Clay Carroll earned his 2nd save. Phil Niekro(1-2) suffered the loss.
Cincinnati continued on their recent roll, their winning streak now reaching
9 games and counting. Sparky Anderson was clearly happy after the game --
'Everything is clicking for us right now.'
