In a close game the Cincinnati Reds got by the Houston Astros by the score of
7 to 5.

Cincinnati came up with 4 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 4 hits. The
critical plate appearance was by Ken Griffey who excited the crowd when he
laced a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners. Cincinnati banged out 10
hits on the night.

Don Gullett(3-0) went 7 innings allowing 5 runs for the victory. Gullett got
help from Pedro Borbon who earned his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Tom
Griffin(1-1). His biggest problem was control as he allowed 7 walks in 4
innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Sparky Anderson said after the game. 'Gullett did not have
command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
