Doug Rau tossed a complete game and left fielder Willie Crawford had 3 base

hits and 2 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants 7

to 3 at Candlestick Park.



Rau(4-1) gave a fine effort for Los Angeles. He surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk

in 9 innings. Los Angeles totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.



John D'Acquisto(0-3) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for 6 hits and 3

walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. The Los Angeles ballclub's record now stands at

9-10. With the loss, San Francisco has a record of 3-7 lately, 6-12, worst

in the division overall.

Jim Rooker came through with a solid 9 innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates

defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 8 to 1 at Three Rivers

Stadium.



Pittsburgh jumped on top of Philadelphia in the 2nd inning when they scored 2

runs on 2 hits. That was all the runs Rooker(1-1) needed. Pittsburgh

managed 11 hits in their victory.



Wayne Twitchell(3-1) absorbed the loss. He pitched 4 innings allowing 6 hits

and 4 walks. 'All of my pitches were working today,' Rooker said. 'I felt

really good out there, and heck, I think I could have gone longer.'

St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 8 to 5.



St. Louis had 6 runs cross the plate in the 2nd inning when they had 4 base

hits. That early scoring was all that John Denny(3-1) needed. St. Louis had

7 hits for the afternoon.



Al Hrabosky was credited with his 6th save. Bill Bonham(1-3) was tagged with

the loss. He allowed 4 hits and 3 walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Dusty Baker collected 2 extra-base hits and had 4 RBI and Carl Morton allowed

Clyde King to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Jack Murphy

Stadium where the Atlanta Braves beat the San Diego Padres by the score of 9

to 6.



Baker enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He tripled plating two runs in the

1st inning, lined a one-base hit in the 2nd inning and doubled plating two

runs in the 6th inning. Atlanta finished with 13 hits in the victory.



The win went to Morton(3-1) who allowed 6 runs in the game. The losing pitcher

was Randy Jones(1-3). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 12

hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.



'It's been a rough ride lately, but this was a good win for us' said Clyde

King, 'Maybe this will put us back on track.'

Tony Perez went deep and had 2 RBI at The Astrodome as the streaking

Cincinnati Reds beat the Houston Astros in 10 innings 6 to 5.



The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings. Cincinnati came out the victor

in the 10th inning. Perez lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 2nd of the

season). Cincinnati finished with 10 hits in the victory.



Will McEnaney(1-1) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.

Wayne Granger(0-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 3

hits in 2 innings.
