Center fielder Jim Wynn had 2 base hits at Fulton Co Stadium where the Los

Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 3 to 2.



Los Angeles took the lead off Buzz Capra in the first inning when they scored

2 runs on 3 hits. Atlanta made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable

to push the needed runs across.



The winning pitcher was Andy Messersmith(2-2) who allowed 2 runs in 8 and 2/3

innings. Messersmith got help from Mike Marshall who earned his 1st save.

Capra(1-1) took the loss. He allowed just 6 hits and no walks in 8 innings.



'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Clyde King after the game. 'We

lost this game tonight because we didn't follow the instructions every Little

Leaguer hears every day.'

Jim Crawford pitched 9 strong innings at The Astrodome as the Houston Astros

beat the San Diego Padres by the count of 1 to 0.



Houston drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning

plating an isolated run. Enos Cabell reached on an error. Two outs later

Cliff Johnson came up and he laced a single. Bob Watson then reached on an

error scoring the run. That was all the runs Crawford(1-0) needed. Houston

had just 4 hits for the night.



The loss was charged to Randy Jones(1-2). He was the victim of a defensive

lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.



'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a

good groove.' Crawford said after the game. 'I'm ready to start another game

tomorrow!'

In a close game it was the Cincinnati Reds 6, the San Francisco Giants 4 at

Riverfront Stadium.



Cincinnati brought 2 runs across the plate in the 7th inning. Dave Concepcion

led off and started the attack as he drew a walk. Joe Morgan followed and he

drew a walk. Two outs later George Foster stepped in and he doubled bringing

in two baserunners. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.



Clay Carroll(1-1) went 3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Charlie

Williams(1-1) suffered the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs in 2

innings and saw his ERA increase from 3.52 to 4.66.
